For added safety, comfort and convenience, we offer patients the option of having their eye surgery (such as cataract extraction) performed in our state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center in Garden City, Long Island . This New York State Department of Health Article 28-certified facility is fully Medicare-approved, fully accredited by the AAAHC and is dedicated entirely to eye surgery.
Most of our patients undergoing routine surgery such as cataract removal are not required to have additional testing such as EKGs and blood work prior to the procedure, which helps simplify and streamline their pre-operative routine and reduces unnecessary added anxiety and expense. Virtually all cataract surgeries are performed with microscopic precision in a sutureless and needle-free fashion and are conducted under local anesthesia with close monitoring by a board-certified anesthesiologist. In addition to the latest equipment, the surgeons at the Garden City surgical center also have access to the widest array of cataract lens implants available, ranging from time-tested monofocal acrylic and silicone implants to multifocal implants, like the ReZoom and Tecnis Multifocal, to the astigmatism-correcting AcrySof IQ Toric, to the accommodating Crystalens HD.
Besides cataract surgery, the Garden City surgical center also has ophthalmic lasers for outpatient glaucoma and after-cataract treatment. For patients undergoing aesthetic or functional oculoplastic procedures, Dr. Werner has access to a CO2 laser for scalpel-free eyelid surgeries. Simple, as well as complex, vitreoretinal procedures are also performed at this facility.
