In our tireless pursuit of eyecare excellence, our physicians actively participate in international conferences where we gain the necessary knowledge to bring our patients only the highest quality services. We are more than a laser center. Below you can find some of the advanced procedures which we offer at Stahl Eyecare Experts.
Intacs
Intacs are prescription inserts manufactured by Addition Technology, Inc. Intacs correct only mild levels of nearsightedness which can be replaced or removed in the future and leave the central cornea untouched. These implants are a great alternative to laser surgery and provides crisp, clear vision. Intacs are FDA approved and FAA approved for pilots.
How are they used?
These prescription inserts are micro-thin and are inserted just under the outer edge of the cornea in your eye. The procedure is brief and is considered an “outpatient” type procedure. Intacs reshape the curvature of your eye to correct mild nearsightedness and does not remove any tissue in the cornea, like laser surgery, which is critical to your vision.
According to the manufacturer’s claims, Addition Technology, “over 97% of patients who get Intacs inserts achieve the goal of driver’s license vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses, and greater than 50% are pleased to discover that their vision is better than 20/20.”
Laser surgery actually removes tissue from the cornea of your eye which corrects your vision. However, if your vision changes, additional procedures may take place and more tissue will be removed. With the use of Intacs, they do not remove the tissue in your cornea and are completely removable. If your prescription, or vision, changes over time then the current Intacs can be removed and additional Intacs can be inserted according to your prescription. The overall physical feeling you receive with Intacs is no more than your average contact lens. The Intac itself is actually a micro-thin plastic ring segment inserted just underneath the outer edge of the cornea.
Who Qualifies For Intacs?
You must be above the age of 21 and only a qualified physician can determine if you are a candidate for Intacs. Your eyes must be healthy and have no major eye disorders. People who are approved for Intacs are those who have glasses or contact lenses between -1.00 and -3.00 diopters with no more than 1.00 diopter of astigmatism. The best way to determine if Intacs are right for you is to consult your doctor.
Why Get Intacs
- Great Vision: more than half of the Intacs inserts patients see significantly better than 20/20
- Enhances the Natural Vision System of the Cornea: without permanent removal of tissue from the eye.
- Leaves the Eye’s Critical, Central Optical Zone Fully Intact
- Are Removable: in case future vision requirements changes
- Eliminates the Need for Contacts or Glasses: in 97% of patients.
Keep Your Options Open
Between the ages of 40 and 50, most everyone develops an eye condition known as presbyopia. Presbyopia is a disorder that causes the eye to lose the ability to focus on close objects. Although there is no current refractive surgery to prevent the onset of presbyopia, Intacs can provide you with excellent vision while leaving your options open in the future for another type of surgery if and when it comes along.
Only a qualified optometrist and your personal eye doctor can determine if you’re qualified for prescription Intacs. CK® NearVision℠ CK®
Available at Stahl Eyecare Experts, NearVision℠ CK® (Conductive Keratoplasty) is an FDA approved procedure used to treat and improve the vision of people with presbyopia.
NearVision CK® is a unique vision correction treatment that reshapes the cornea using radiofrequency (RF) released from a small probe that is thinner than a human hair. There is no cutting or removal of tissue involved. The controlled release of radiofrequency shrinks small areas of corneal tissue, gently increasing the cornea’s curvature.
The revolutionary NearVision℠ CK® procedure takes less that three minutes and is performed using only topical anesthesia. Since NearVision℠ CK® is quick and minimally invasive, patients at Stahl who require treatment for both eyes often have both eyes treated on the same visit.
Following NearVision CK® surgery at our office, most patients will experience mild but often unnoticeable fluctuations in vision which should subside within a few weeks. Though you will not have to wear bandages or patches after NearVision℠ CK®, your vision correction surgeon will recommend you wear temporary clear lenses. Similar to contact lenses, these clear lenses are worn in order to reduce possible discomfort and protect your eyes.
