After getting to know Dr. Marc Werner and Dr. Hufnagel, we thought you might want to meet Dr. Benjamin Chang. If you still have questions for Dr. Chang, (or any of the doctors), let us know in the comments below.
Where are you originally from?
I was born outside of the US in Taiwan. I grew up in suburban Boston, not far from where I went to college.
What is your favorite memory from your years at UCLA?
The weather. How can you beat the gorgeous weather in southern California? Don’t miss the earthquakes, though.
How many years have you been practicing laser eye surgery?
I started doing laser vision correction procedures in 1999. As the volume of LASIK surgeries grew very rapidly in our practice, I learned to do the procedures to help address the demand in our practice.
What made you pick ophthalmology, particularly LASIK, as a specialty?
I love the fact that in ophthalmology, I can literally “see” the pathology I am treating. The technological advances over the last 2 decades have made the precision with which I can diagnose and treat eye problems, from potentially blinding diseases to less serious conditions, unmatched by other surgical specialties.
Your favorite thing about New York?
You’ve got EVERYTHING in New York, literally everything, from food to fashion to entertainment. But you have to take the bad with the good, and NY has everything bad as well, like crime, disease, etc.. Certainly makes life more interesting.
